All In Washington Announces First Round of Vaccine Equity Initiative Grants with $2.8M for Community-based Organizations

14 Apr, 2021

COVID-19 has disproportionately impacted Black, Indigenous, and Communities of Color, including immigrants and refugees, on multiple levels. This impact has extended into vaccination efforts throughout our state. In February, the Seattle Times reported that “While 67% of people who received their initial doses were white, 48% of the state’s cases of COVID-19, the illness caused by the coronavirus, have been in white patients. On the other hand, Black and Hispanic residents have been comparatively under-vaccinated.”

The Vaccine Equity Initiative was launched to increase vaccine access and education for those most impacted, especially Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. Initiative grants provide funding to trusted, community-based organizations that can conduct linguistically and culturally-specific vaccine education and outreach, organize community events to make it easier for disproportionately impacted populations to get vaccinated in their local communities, and address other barriers such as transportation.

We received funding requests totaling over $4.9M for Round 1 (of 4) of the Vaccine Equity Initiative. For Round 1, we awarded $2.8M to 111 community-based organizations across the state. Our review process prioritized organizations serving a large number of people from Black, Indigenous, and People of Color communities, as well as immigrants, refugees, and agricultural workers. Our process also prioritized funding in counties with lower overall vaccination rates.

Thank you to our donors who went All In to help these organizations expand vaccine access throughout our state. Round 1 grantees are listed below.
